Eric Jackson, Fulbright Scholar travels to Budapest

Eric Jackson, Fulbright Scholar and NWU graduate, traveled to Budapest and wanted to share his report with the Foundation. The conference “Central and Eastern European E-Gov and E-Dem Days 2015” was located in Budapest, Hungary at The National University of Public Service. Eric presented a paper at this conference and it was titled “Open Georgia: How Open Data Can Be Used As An Anti-Corruption Tool”

In his own words this is the summary of his experience of the conference:

“There were 46 papers by over 80 authors from all Asia, Africa, and Europe who presented at the conference. Topics primary dealt with the implications of countries and municipalities integrating bureaucracy, security, and democracy with technology. My paper specifically focused on a Non-Governmental Organization in the Republic of Georgia that sponsors a database that contains public information from public officials and institutions (like salaries, bonuses, procurements etc.) This database is called “” and it’s objective is to increase transparency and accountability in Georgia, which I argue, it is accomplishing.”

Here are some pictures from his trip:
